Fanazavàna teny anglisy An acacia-like tree, the wood of which is used in making musical instruments. The seeds were often used formerly in working the sikidy, as indeed is still the case among the Sakalava. In the days of bullfighting the root of the shrub was taken, pounded, put in water, and given to the bulls that were to fight, with the idea that it made them fierce. An infusion of the leaves is now used in cases of colic. Piptadenia chrysostachys, Bth. [1.2]

  [Merina, Sakalava, Sihanaka, Tsimihety] Entada chrysostachys (Benth.) Drake (Fabaceae). Bon bois employé en lutherie (instruments de musique). C'était un des arbres sacrés, souvent planté dans les résidences seigneuriales. Graines employées pour tirer le sikidy (divination). Racines réputées stimulantes ; leur décoction était administrée aux taureaux de combat. Écrasées, elles constituaient un emplâtre qu'on appliquait sur les abcès. Feuilles en infusion dans les coliques. Elles entraient aussi dans la composition de l' odi-boiboika (remède contre les tumeurs scrofuleuses). [1.196]
